You need either an HD box from your cable/satellite company, or an HD antenna. You can get an HD Antenna and that will allow you to get some HD channels for free. I think they have some HD antennas that you can mount on the top of your tv. But I believe the best ones are the ones that mount outside on your roof. However, to get the most HD content, you need to step up to an HD package from your cable/satellite company. Also, you will want to connect all that with component cables or HDMI cables. Any cables below that, like s-video, won't bring in the proper HD.

the tuner inside the tv itself is only good for understanding local channels off of an antenna. So if the only HD channels you want to see are local, then just hook up an antenna as well as the cable and you can pick them up that way...but for HD cable channels like the Discovery channel (HA, which is awesome) you need a cable HD box and pay more a month for the HD programming...

You need a digital cable box that is also an HD cable box.
The fact that your picture is better is most likely due to the fact that your new TV is better. With only a coax cable you are still viewing regular (low def) TV.

You are definitely not seeing HD now, Coax connections do not support it.
At minimum you need to connect to your TV with component cables. They are the ones with three for video and two for audio.
You should contact your cable provider to see if your box is capable of sending the HD signal to your TV.
In the meantime check the back of your cable box to see if it has the component outputs. If you have those then it might be HD ready.
I know with dish network you have to buy specific HD ready receivers to view the HD content.

there's a piece (crimson, blue, and green cables) to HDMI converter, i think of the main inexpensive one I have been given grow to be around $seventy 5 there's a Composite (yellow cable) to HDMI converter for the comparable cost. the two bins will do upscaleing, yet what you get out of them isn't genuine HD 1080P, even however they are able to have the skill to fool the television into thinking it extremely is the variety of sign it extremely is getting.

I believe you need to call your cable company to send you the signal to recieve the HD, we had to, we have comcast in the chicago area. No, you don't need a digital cable box, they just need to send you the power to recieve it.
