Ask for his. Some practical reasons- you would be able to decide when to contact, and there's no chance your number could end up in the wrong hands.(some guys are dogs)

I think yes you should give him your number. If you asked him out and he can't come then he should be able to call you. I also think that you should get his too.

why not do both that way each of you has the other persons name and number and when one of you call you will know who it is instead of just seeing a random number

If you take his then he can't call you. He's gonna start thinking why doesn't she want me to call her?
If you give him your number and he doesn't want to give you his then your gonna wonder why aren't you.....?
Swop then your meeting each other half way no one is under pressure or in control. Plus theres the excitment of wondering wether you should call or wait thats fun too.
