I purchased a brand new Hitachi 32" in December but ever since I have noticed while watching tv (through satellite) that the picture flickers at the top, and appears hazy. What is the most likely cause of this? Dodgy cables or poor aerial, or is the tv faulty?

Hi,
Your TV will most likely be digital. High definition (HD) reception can either be really great or really poor. If you see pixels flash accross the screen or the picture is jumpy, this can be normal digital noise. Its crappy, but thats the price you pay for digital information (its sometimes better to go standard definition depending on placement of your house, aerial, etc.)
But hazy is somethig new. Make sure you have a High Definition set top box or that the satelite is set to HD. If the TV has in inbuilt tuner, try to pick up the reception from that and see if this solves the problem. If not, then its the TV, take it back.
Also beware that things like speakers, especially big ones, have magnets in them. This can alter the picture quite a bit especially if they are next to or on top of the TV. LCD are better with magnet fields but can still happen.

So try another source - plain old aerial for example (not through sat.) and see if this still happens (maybe DVD player).
Good luck

I would try changing your scart cables for now, then establish that it happens on every source ie on DVD, Sky etc. If it does your TV is faulty so wing it back to them. If the problem isolated to one particular source then it is that which is faulty
