Well basically I have been dying my hair blonde now since I was about 15 so 8 years. Though not completely dyign it blonde all the time sometimes highlights. I stopped dying it blonde about 2 years ago and dyed over the blonde a dark brown (my natural colour) but I have had to keep doing this because after a few months the dye seems to fade out and my hair goes this horrid red/ginger colour that looks like blonde dye gone badly wrong. So i have to keep dying my hair as I do not like this colour, am I going to have to keep doing this or is there anyway I can get my hair back to my natural brown colour?

Hi! I am a professional hairdresser and am very high up in the industry, and would love to help you out! Ok, this prblem you are having is very common! Here is a solution: when you go to your regular hairdresser, ask him/her to mix this particular mixture for you and apply as follows..
On your re-growth only, ask them to mix the desired or chosen colour to your roots, with 6% (20 vol) peroxide, then,
On your faded ends, to use 3% (10 vol) peroxide.
This lower percentage helps deepen the tint and to hold on longer, and another thing which will help is to buy a shampoo that has a brown pigment mixture in it which helps to tone your hair yourself everytime you wash it!
Hope i helped you- Good luck and feel free to visit my website and join my mailing list for free info, or ask any questions direct with my email address!

are you buying the colors from like walmart or are you buying them from a beauty mart? the problem with store bought hair color is it always comes with 40 volume developer. your hair cant keep the color because it has nothing to hold onto after all the color has been tinted and lifted so many times. if you have a Sally's beauty mart, buy your color and developer and use that. you will not only save money, but it is better for the health of your hair. also, while you are at Sally's buy a product called "bone marrow" it is a conditioning repair creme'. after about a week you will begin seeing results. when your hair is healthy it will hold color again. DO NOT STRIP THE COLOR IN YOUR HAIR. Get your hair healthy again and use better products. remember, you can mix colors to achieve the tint you are looking for. use either 20 or 30 volume developer for your hair, probably 20 because of the condition of your hair. when your roots start to show, only color your roots, not your entire head. alternate with your colorings. do your first treatment all over, then the next one only your roots, then the next one all over etc. space your colorings 4-6 weeks apart at least.

simply go darker. eventually it will fade a little and you'll be closer to your natura color until it grows out. be careful though, colors labeled "darkest brown" sometimes look almost black. go for a medium to dark brown. if your hair is brassy "red" then you might use an ash brown to nuetralize the red.

I think it would be worth the money to go to a professional who is really good at correcting color. They can get you back on track.

what are you doing? Dying hair so often you can burn your roots and you might not have hair at all...give a brake for one year and cut the colored hair and color it than, don't do it so often....

Ask the salon to strip the color from your hair. They should be able to do it. That should put it close to your antural color.
