My new years resolution was to get my lazy self into shape, I'm not really counting calories just cutting back and watching what I eat. Apart from a minor lapse involving birthday cake it's been going well.

My diet goes something like this...
Breakfast is 1 slice rye bread with low fat cottage cheese or houmous.
During the day i usually have a low fat yogurt and fruit (usually try to eat not too much much fruit although today I've already eaten a punnet of strawberries and 4 kiwi fruits).
Evening meal. Well today I have Prawns with vegetables and cous cous. I'm trying to avoid fatty foods, not too many dairy products and not too much pasta or fatty meats. I rarely eat ready meals or frozen stuff so it's mostly fresh.

Also I've been doing situps and lifting weights daily and increasing the amount / weight gradually.

I'm 32, about 5.10 and the last tyime I weighed myself (xmas day) I was 13.6 stone. Anyone got any advice, anyway of doing this more effectivel

Yeah I've been eating a lot of salad as well.

The one thing I haven't cut down on is beer.

You're on the right track. Don't forget your cardio (min. 3 x 20 minutes/week) and don't rely entirely on the scale to track your progress. Use fat calipers or a tape measure to make sure you really are losing fat. Keep up the lean protein (esp. in small amounts as snacks) and slow burning carbs and you will see results quickly. Good luck!

sounds pretty good... keep the diet varied but it sounds like you have the right idea with the foods. it's different for everyone. more leafy greens wouldn't hurt you.

i advise a multivitamin with breakfast, along with a flax oil and maybe a fish oil

you also may want to consider a half-dose of calcium-magnesium

make sure your weightlifting form is correct. worry about overall posture, and not individual muscles. consider yoga or t'ai chi to understand posture better. i think situps are suboptimal. i like the ab-lounge for crunches. a varied exercise routine will naturally strengthen the stomach. if you're trying to lose weight (i always forget what a stone is) then you need cardio.

Its pretty good. Its good your lifting weights since it speeds up the loss even if your not doing anything. Also after lifting you should have a protein shake, its what they call "the window of opportunity" to help build your muscle and keep it from a catabolic effect.
