My parents passed away many years ago and i need their birth certificates. They were born in Batwa, Gujarat. Would the authorities have birth records going back to 1908 and what do I do if they dont?

Until 1960s or 1970s there was no system of issuing birth certificates. But the school certificates or horoscopes were treated as birth certificates. hence try the schools to get the certificates.

good luck

First, make enquiries with the Municipal authorities concerned. From them, find out where the records have been transmitted and apply from that authority. Very old records are sent to the Archaeology dept. Find out if there is any system for getting extracts from those records.

You can get certificate from place of birth only. Practically it is difficult to get certificate of birth of 100 years old.
It is presumed that need for immigration.

From that far back, you will have to use a family Bible or something that is a legal record that shows the birth of your parents. (within the family) A Family Bible is legal and is recognized.

How would they get a passport if they were still alive? The path for obtaining a passport for them would show you what to do.
Is there anyone living who can attest to their birth? I would write to them and ask for help. There is a site below for their government.

Your best bet might be the register of births in the church in the village where she was born. Do you have a date? In a small village, it might be obvious which baby she had to be.
