That's an easy one!!
It's the state of our shameful hate mongering & general disrespect toward people we disagree w & issues we don't understand.
Sadly it still seems to be in a growth mode. Folks from both sides of challenges we face find it easier to offer ignorant attacks on fellow countrymen, than making an effort which might strengthen our UNITED States of America. Wake up!

For your info, there are only 50 states in the union.
Alabama, Alaska,Arizona,Arkansas,California,Colorado,Connecticut,Delaware,District of Columbia,Florida,Georgia,Hawaii,Idaho, Illinois,Indiana,Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,Maine,Maryland,Massachussetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri,Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hanpshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, N. Carolina, N. Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon,Pennsylvania,Rhode Island, S. Carolina S. Dakota, Tennesee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

There are only 50.
We have in addition to these the District of Columbia, protectorates and territories, as well as a number of sovereign Native American authorities within the US.

Gotta news flash for ya, there's only 46 states & 4 commonwealths. Pa., Mass., Va., & Kentucky are commonwealths not states.

Not one in a thousand knows what the 50 th state is. (It is W.V. which finally legally became a state in 1963) Don't confuse people.
