Hi Friend,
I think it can be considered and debated that one child in every family should or should not join the armed forces. It is currently in practise in many of the countries. But in our scenario, I feel with a population of one billion plus, Why do we need to have such compulsion. Are we short on volunteers and if that be so then it is matter a shame for the country and not the armed forces, contrary to as many people think today.

In my opinion a person who is really interested to serve the country joining the force only should join the force. If we are forcing a person who really do not have any interest to join the force and abide the strict rules of the force will be a shere waste to the country as well as the person himself. there is a difinite difference between a person who joins the force by his own interest and a person joins the post for the sake of a job and security. at the time of emergency only we can find the difference. the one who joins the force at his own will be at the front to do and die and the other set of persons will be doing it for the sake of others. So in my opinion we should develop patriotic feelings in the mind of our children from the very beginning and encourage them if they want to join our force. At the same time we should provide all facilities to the warriorand his family for his day and night duties protecting the country from enemies.

No. Our country is a democracy and not ruled by military dictatorship. Our defence force is a peacekeeping force and not an attacking force as US army. Further the expenses to keep such a force will be enormous. This fund can be well utilised for development purposes rather than destructive purpose.

I am sure that will not solve any body's purpose. Being an Indian i feel children should be encouraged to talk or work towards social causes within the country rather defending the country from it's enemies.

When time comes every family would always be glad to send their kids to join the forces. There is nothing like dying for a country, but let them make bold enough to face the enemy within like misery, corruption, poverty and hunger.

Children are the one's who need the nurturing to be righteous and ethical. Like "swami vivekananda" once said "My countrymen should have nerves of steel, muscles of iron, and minds like thunderbolt.”

No, I think ALL children should join the defense force for 18 months of obligated service.

That would give us enough to post along the Mexican border, enough to intimidate Iran and North Korea so that they have a chance of backing down without war, and our active duty and long-term service members would be relieved of some of their other tasks to do their real jobs.

Obligated service members could also be drawn upon for things like Katrina relief and tsunami relief and regular rotations through our peacetime bases in Japan and Europe.

We would have no need of Border Patrol in the US, and many other federal agencies could draw on them for manpower at entry level jobs.

Those going through obligated service would have light duty and a minimum of 6 months college level training in vocations related to their work. They can also pay into a form of the GI bill and get college when they exit the other side.

Everyone wins.

In the Indian Armed Forces there are not enough weapons. If you mean everyone from 18 to 21 years of age (as they do in Singapore) that would be like 25 million people. We need a much higher funding. However a lot of India police carry metal sticks to beat rioters or something. If those millions of youths got that as a weapon it could work out but India would be "militarized"We are a democracy.

In some special cases everyone should join the defence, other cases shouldn't because USA always has enough population to defend itself.

What if we are asked to have only one child to contain the population growth. Joining the army comes naturally for some and not so naturally for others . It is definitely a carrier option for the future.
