My cousin just turned 17, my grandparents have raised her since she was 6. (both parents have drug problems) She does that "cutting" stuff, she's been drinking a bottle of niquil a day, and takes about 10 of those BC powder things. (these are things they've just found out)
Along with those she smokes cigarettes, used to (or still might) smoke pot and drink.
She's supposed to have 20 credits in school, but because of classes she's failed she only has 10!

What can they do about her? Grounding doesn't work, they've tried medications but she won't take them. Our family is really confused right now and could use some outside advice.

Your grandparents have done what they can with her.Now it is time for them to get some outside help. She may need to be put in some sort of a rehab. At the very least she need's counseling. You can't force anyone to change they have to want to change all you can do is try and lead her in the right direction. She is alomost 18 your grandparents may have to resort to using tough-love which means they don't help her with anything and let her hit rock bottom. If that does'nt make her want to change nothing will unfortunately.Good Luck.

Clearly your cousin is well on the road to self-destruction and needs rehab/medical intervention. Contact your family doctor, pastor, or local hospital for assistance in getting the rehab process started. Your county child/family services department may also be able to assist since she is a minor. This is the time for some tough love.

It sounds as if she has a low self esteem. I would recommend professional counseling for her and the entire family. This is not your grandparents fault but she has to take responsibility for her own actions. She was basically abandoned by her parents and this may be the cause for some of this behavior.

I would suggest to them to try and get her in some form of counseling. She has some serious issues and if not addressed will follow her long into adulthood.
