When you pan fry an egg do you use butter or oil?

(My husband fries in one and I fry in the other, I'm just trying to figure out what most people use)

Olive oil has too distinct a flavor for breakfast eggs. Margarine is not healthier than butter, unless it's one of those bland heart healthy kind. Cooking spray will dry out the surface of nonstick pans and degrade the surface.

Butter is the ideal here. If it burns too easily, your pan is too hot to fry an egg. Eggs get rubbery when cooked on that high of a heat.

Preheat the nonstick pan on medium low, then use a stick of butter to draw an "X" on the bottom of the pan. It's all you need. Tilt the pan slightly when pouring the egg in, so it begins to congeal in a smaller area, making it easier to flip.

Room temp eggs stick less are are easier to handle in the pan, so crack your eggs in a bowl and leave them on the counter for 15-20 minutes before you begin.

In any case, you are just lucky your husband cooks! Mine can't make a hot pocket!

I use butter, but over a low-medium heat. When the butter is melted, I place the eggs in the pan, season with salt and pepper and let them cook just until the egg whites begin to firm up. Then I add 2-3 tbsp of water, and cover with a see thru lid and cook until the whites are done and the yolk is done to my liking. Gently lift the eggs out of the pan and serve on toast points. Delicious!

Butter or margarine. Sometimes I use olive oil but I must be quick when I do so as it burns fast. No normal cooking oil for us.

If you have a non-stick pan, try using the spray on oil for less fat. You can get those at bakery shops. It is very cost effective as well. Just a little spray will do.

I hope that helps.

We had fried eggs yesterday morning with our pancakes, bacon and grits....I just used a tablespoon of the bacon drippings in a non stick frying pan and they were great...I don't always have the bacon drippings...so I'd use a healthy margarine that has no trans fats.
I get the pan hot and then turn down to medium and cook the egg until the whites are set before flipping over...they were yummy...

You could get a really good non-stick pan and try that or I've seen people make eggs (fritattas, omelettes, etc) in the oven but it takes a looong time. I have made my soft boiled eggs in a bain marie or double boiler but you said no boiled eggs...why? It's delicious and 0 extra calories ;)

definitely butter!! yum! yum!...the fragrance is wonderful when you fry your egg with butter....it gets moist inside and more tasty in my opinion. sometimes i boil some rice, put more butter on the pan making sure there would be some excess after I'm done with my egg...than i simply pour the whole thing over the rice...wonderful!

I use oil as butter tends to burn too easily. Especially since I like mine sunny side up and only one side comes into contact with the heat.

Most of the time I use butter or margarine, but bacon grease tastes the best in my opinion.
