I'm having trouble being sure I have found the correct verses which you were speaking of... would you mind reviewing the below and let us know if I have gotten these correct? (If so, I will study them and try to help answer your question... but I don't want to spend so much time on it until I make sure I've got the right verses! Thanks.) :)
I am thinking you may be referring to Paul's words in Romans 8:35-37 (and specifically verse 36):
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
And you were referring to the place where Jesus is talking in John 16:31-33:
31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
And Psalm 44:22 states:
22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the eart.
26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake.
And you are asking, why did Paul quote the Psalms? And how does that relate to Jesus's words?
Let us know, if you will. Thanks.
