Wash twice a day with a cleanser for normal to combo skin. Make sure you use a moisturizer too! Wash with warm water, but follow with a splash of cold to close those pores. Washing more than 2 times per day will overstimulate your oil glands and make your face oilier! Use a microdermabrasion set 3 times per week. This will really help with the flakiness!
It sounds like you are using something too harsh on your face and it is drying out the surface skin which makes it feel and look dry. But, this causes your skin to overreact which creates the oil you have.
I recommend: Mary Kay Timewise cleanser for normal to combo skin, oil control lotion during the day for moisturizer, timewise moisturizer at night. Microdermbrasion set 3 times per week. Oil mattifier every day to prevent excess oil or to dry current oil up in the middle of the day.
I have oily skin so this is from experience.

You may be using a product that overdries your skin. Dermalogica which is skin friendly is a great product to use. Look up a spa in your area that carries this product and schedule a facial with an esthetician. The website is www.dermalogica.com and put in your zip code where it says location near you. Our skin is naturally acidic and soap, some Mary Kay products, Clinique, proactiv, etc. are alkaline and they can strip the protective barrier of your skin and cause you to have the problem you are having. I suggest normal to oily skin products with Dermalogica since that is what I use on my clients. Here are the websites to check out.

Well, what I would tell ya to do is consult your dermatologist, he/she will be the most helpful. But, it seems that perhaps you may be using a cleansing product or after cleansing products to subdue the oil (like oil-reducing cleansers), when perhaps you should reconsider. Your skin may be overproducing oil because you take away too much of it in your cleansing and conditioning regimen, try something not so harsh, and then use an oil controlling moisturizer that will also be thick enough to deal with your dry patches.

You may want to actually go visit a Dermatologist. You could possibly have a skin condition like rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis. Also, you will really want to boost your water intake because dry skin means a lack of water, not oil. Cut back on anything with caffeine, smoking, salt, carbonation and eat foods that are rich in water levels (fruits & veggies.) The dietary changes alone should help improve your skin, but really, you will want to see a doc.

use a facial wash that is made for combination skin types. for your body, use phisoderms clear confidence body wash. it unclogs pores and doesnt dry out your skin.
