well as the problem is world wide. the only thing i can sugest is to help the soil that you have control of, eg, dig a compost pit and place a tin lid on top to help your rubbish to compost down and when your pit is full leave it to compost down and start a new one and if you want to plant a tree in the compost pit, if you throw your potato peeling in to the pit potato pants will grow and there you have your very own source of potatoes and new good soil. all the holes you dig, when it rains, the water will go into the soil were its meant to be and your yard wont flood and your soil wont wash away. in areas in india everyone is making compost pit and they have only been doing it for two years but already there soil is improving and crops are growing more than ever. so may we should all give it a go, hey?

Simply....
1. plant trees
2. Prevent burning your trash. (Use compost pit instead)
3. Use the 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle)
4. Avoid using aerosol sprays, perfumes with CFCs
5. Conserve energy.

Hope this helps!
