If you don’t feel the same, then be honest about it. Having someone love you is the boldest compliment anyone can pay you. Treat him with respect and with care. Understand how he is feeling, telling someone you love them is risky and not having them respond the way you want can really hurt.
Changing your behaviour around him will make it all seem worse than it is, let him know you still like him as a friend. And do this by keeping him close, as you always have.

Well, he is still your friend, so just be honest and tell him that that was nice of him to tell you how he feels about you but that you dont feel the same way... however you still appreciate him and you were wondering if the way he feels will affect your friendship.... if he is cool with it, then just act like you have always acted around him.

Men and women mature at different speeds and he has shown a little lack of maturity--treat it all as a goof---and then ignore it. DO NOT CARRY ON ABOUT IT---sounds like a funny little outburst that needs to be ignored---if he starts again---just say thank you and WALK AWAY. Maybe you shouldn't include him in on your 3 ways for a while.

if you don't tell him explicitly that you don't feel the same way, he'll think that you do.
If you don't address it, he'll resent you.
You should tell him, "If I didn't have feelings for someone else, I may be into going out with you. But I just don't feel that way about you or anyone else but the one person that I'm currently carrying a torch for"
that way, he doesn't take it personally that he's not good enough.
and you cannot help who you like and who you don't like. it's just *is*. love is magic. can't control it, hun.

If you like him too, then I suggest you speak to him in person privately and question him if he was serious about his "love" remark. You should also be sure that "you love him" or else you may have to convince him that you two can stay as good friends.

I would try to play it off kind of like he was joking (even though you don't think he was). Like just be like "well I don't love you.. j/k!!" or something that would show him you totally thought he was kidding and try to just let it pass.

But hey, you've just won a man. He is yours, do what you wish to.
