The most important thing in treating diarrhoea is to ensure that fluid is replaced.
If you dont replace fluid dehydration will occure resulting in electrolyte imbalance, organ damage, and in extreme cases death.

You can get Kao Magma from a chemist this helps to stop dioarrhoea. Lomotil tablest are alos an approach to contolling this problem. Lomotil slows down peristalsis ( wave like motion of the bowel) that propels faeces to the exterior.

A simple approach for a food intake is grated apple, replaces sugars for energy and the pectin of the apple helps control bowel action.

I suggest getting her to ahospital so that tests can be done to ascertain what the cause is, as wll as getting professional and appropriate treatment for this person. The longer you delay and not replace flluids and energy the worse the health of this person will be ACT NOW!

Diahorrea that lasts for more than 7 days is considered to be of significant relevence, especially if accompanied by blood or mucus in the stool. A major complication with severe gastro that lasts for this period of time is dehydration. This is NOT to be underestimated as hospitalisation may be required & I.V re-hydration. There is a reason that alot of G.P's these days do not prescribe anti-nausia & diahorretics. The least you can do is make sure your daughter is drinking enough water with an electrolyte suppliment (Hydralyte etc.) ,to counteract the fluids she is losing. I have also found a pro-biotic suppliment to be of benify , especially during teh recovery period where active flora in the gut has been diminished.

Did the doctor recommend 24 hours starvation with only clear liquids and to avoid dairy products? This is the best remedy if you have not tried it already. Any bout of diarrhoea that lasts longer than 3 days (or 24 hours for an infant)should be investigated by a doctor. Maybe you need to get a second opinion?

How old is your daughter? When my daughter was really young, she had diarrhoea for over a week and all I was told to do was give her plenty of water. Eventually I was told to give her a powder called diarolite which helps the body to build up salt etc. Alternatively flat coke is recommended as well.
Interestingly, one doctor I saw when she was ill said that it didn't matter if she ate (some advice is not to eat when you have an upset stomach) as there was not medical evidence to support this theory.

How old is the child? Baby, toddler, teenager?
If she is not dehydrated then she will be fine. Make sure her fluid intake is higher than usual to make up for what she's losing.
Don't give her dairy until it's cleared as the fats in it can make the diarrhoea foul smelling.

Stupid doctor - Go to the Pharmacy and get some kaolin - Explain to them -my pharmacy was sympathetic. Don't go to a big one just a little local one who can make their own decision and are not governed by loads of bureaucratic rubbish

Go back to your doctor immediately - you will need to collect a specimen pot from them and take a stool sample with you. A week i s a long time for a 9 year old to have diarrhoea.

You better see another doc. Sounds like your old one isn't taking the situation seriously. There's a lot of things that could be causing this. It's been going on too long.

how old is she?
watch her diet and her weight carefully.
avoid fruit apart from bananas and cut out most fibre.
It may be stomach bug and needs to work itself out.
always be alert to any other symptoms as diarrhea isn't seen as too dangerous on its own
