I don't think they developed the concept of eternity. Could be wrong though.

Ancient Indian Mathematician "Aryabhatta" developed the very concept of zero, and hence infinity or the undefined. The idea of eternity comes from this very concept and hence sanskrit was the first language to have the concept of eternity or "ananta" as has been told by few of previous answerers. But actual translation of "eternal" is "abinaswar".

I think "Ananta" means eternal.
"Amrita" means immortal.
