Yes, I've sponsored players in tournaments before. You need to know your player and trust him or her. Usually the backer gets 50-60% of the money won. Rarely do these deals work because if the player is good enough to win regularly, they will be backing themselves and keeping 100% of the win.

I do it only with one of my friend. He work hard on his game, and have some good results. So I help him for the buy-in of a fews tournaments. But no I don't sponsored players.

I don't think you can just ask people to give you money. You should provide some results or some earnings if people are going to trust that they'll get some return out of it.
