A lot of people find that soaking in a hot bath of epsom salts releaves the soreness. Switch to an upper body, or core workout for a few days.

footwear is the key. the best sneakers do me no good. when I end up with shin splints I have to wear low cut hiking boots for a few days. Something in the arch support fails in the new sneaker/shoes that cause this problem. Unless a lot of people I know are all mutating their feet into swamp critters.
Try going barefoot when possible and use differnt shes for a while. good luck

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span. No food or drink in between the food and not more than three meals a day, unless u r diabetic.

I get wicked shin splints when I walk a long distance or run, so I toss in a couple days of bike riding to rest them. So far the mix has worked for me. Good luck

Eat lots of bananas. A previous HS coach prescribed this to me years ago... and it worked. For temporary relief, you can soak in a hot bath. You can also alternate hot and cold pack for temporary relief. Bengay works really well too... just a little smelly. Good luck.
