my boyfriend frequently gets sinus congestion at night, while he is sleeping and when he initially wakes up. it doesnt bother him other than it being an annoyance, we are scheduled to go to a doctor in about two weeks, but id just like to know if anyone else has had this, or knows what causes it? ive looked all over and cant seem to find relevant information. Thanks.

There could be several reasons why your boyfriend experiences sinus congestion at night. A very simple and common one could be dust mites in the bedding and pillows. You may sleep in the same bed, but not be as sensitive to them as he is. It could be related to the dryness of the air in the room he sleeps in. It can dry and thicken mucus during the night. This can also happen to people who tend to breath through their mouths when they sleep allowing mucus to accumulate. It could also be due to any pets you have that are allowed on the bed. A person who doesn't normally seem allergic may react to dander when they're laying on a bed and directly inhaling large amounts. Could be a lot of things.

Maybe it's not a medical condition, but his pillow?

Does it happen at night while sleeping or at night in general?

Your pillow should be changed once a year due to dust mites, sweat, dead skin cells etc.
I suffered from sinus conditions at night as well, and especially when I woke in the morning. So I ended up buying a latex pillow and I sleep more peacefully, and have less sinus problems.

Hope this can help.......

I have the same problem. All I do is use sinutab. I take one before bed, and I breathe easy all night long. I also don't snore, but if I forget to take a sinutab, I wake my girlfriend up. Trust me it works. I've been looking for relief for years, needless to say, since I found sinutab, I haven't been looking anymore.
