I'm planning on getting a small wrist tattoo(nothing offensive), its the only place where I find myself saying, yes I will love it there. My gf says its not a good idea, because its not easily hidden, which may affect me getting certain jobs(government mostly). What do you think?

I am guessing you are new to the workforce or have had some laid back jobs...but yes, it sometimes can have an affect on you getting a job. some places won't hire you if it comes past the elbow (some police depts) the military may or may not have problems...depends on how bad they need people to enlist. some people will personally judge you based on the tattoos. there might be an actual policy in place...

If it's something a watch could cover then it might not be a big deal but, i would really consider putting it somewhere else untill you have established yourself and know what you want to do with your life.

don't let a cool tatt keep you from a good job. you can always get it later when less people care. Or when you can afford to care less! It's easy to say "screw the man!" now but it's really hard to apologize (and remove) later!

I have 10 and they are all places that I can cover and i have one on the top of my foot and the back of my neck. the rest are in places that you only see in tank tops and swim suits, shorts and i don't dres like that at work so I'm not worried! I can wear socks or tights and my long hair down. Most people at work didn't know I had any!

the one on my neck did keep me from joining the military so....some days i regret and others (most) I thank my stars!

Alot of places don't have any real ideas and don't mind as long as they aren't offensive. Mine doesn't care. Employers are becoming more tolerant (alot of us have tatts now!)but business is still business and depending on the business you are in , it just might not go over well.

Over 30% of people under 30 have ink these days, so it isn't something most companies can afford to discriminate against anymore. But you should ask yourself - why??? Honestly, that type of small tattoo just looks like an unattractive bruise from any distance. If you want ink, get a larger, orginal, nicely detailed piece of art in a more discrete spot on your body. Do it right, or don't bother doing it at all.

They are not viewed very well in the workplace....if you really want a tattoo, make sure you can easily cover it up with your shirt, otherwise you may compromise your job, or be forced to wear long sleeves all the time....so think about it very well, your girlfriend is right, alot of places look down on people with tattoos...

It really depends on your wardrobe, if you can cover it up with long sleeve shirts or a watch you should be fine. I have a wrist tattoo, that I was not suppose to get(military) however I put my watch on over it to keep it covered. Your gf is right though, some companies frown upon easily viewed tattoos, so think really hard before you do it.

I covered mine during my interview, but I don't hide them at all now. Most of the people I work with dig them, or seem to anyway. I have forearm and wrist tats, most people that see them say that they want tats as well. But I am a refrigeration tech.

My wife on the other hand is a nurse, and her employer does not allow exposed tattoos. She has to wear 3/4 sleeve shirts all year round.

the wrist is a huge decision in my opinion. i have a friend who is a firefighter and he has a wrist tattoo and it has not affected his employment. is there a reason you specifically want it on the wrist? many people who get a tattoo decide they really aren't "tattoo" people afterwards. you never know how you'll feel about it, seeing it every day. i have a large tattoo on top of each of my feet and am working on a full back piece and i KNOW without a doubt that i am a tattoo person but i am not sure that i want to venture into getting a tattoo on my wrist.
BUT the fact that you are a guy changes everything. girls having tattoos are more taboo in the workplace. good luck in whatever you decide to do.

This is true, i asked the tattoo place if i could get prayer hands on my lower arm and the guy even told me he wouldnt suggest it because it looks very unprofessional so try to get it in a plcae you can cover up. Even Mcdonalds doesnt approve of havin tattoos showing.

girlfriend is right. unless you will be wearing long sleeves EVERY day, it is not a good place to get it. depends on the job, but most government jobs might frown on it. maybe on the shoulder, or upper arm. in the long run, do what you want, but i'm advising another area.

My uncle worked at a job and he has tattoos all over both arms and he was told to wear long sleeve shirts to hide them. your gf is right.

I agree with your gf. In some jobs, you need to be able to hide them. Some people still view them as offensive.
