well sounds like the neighbor decided first they wanted the stray. if no owners were to be found, you should have taken the dog to the vet and had it microchipped under your name. really there is nothing you can do, i'm sorry. if you have the financial and time ability to provide for a dog in need, please visit your local animal shelter and save one from there. good luck.

Since your neighbors "claimed" the stray first, there is really nothing to be done except to see if they have a forwarding address and asking them if you can have or buy the dog. I agree with the other responder though, there are so many animals in local shelters that need loving homes. Luckily for this stray, he had two families that wanted to take care of him. Since you didn't get him, there is no reason that you can't adopt another homeless pet.

No owner was found. You wanted the dog, but didn't step up before your neighbor did.

Well to me it sounds as if your neighbor didn't do anything wrong. If you had not already came forward and taken the stray in, and it was still just wandering, anyone could have came to get it.

If you're concerned and you're positive it was the neighbor, you can contact whoever rents the building and they should have their new address. Or, the post office will forward a letter for you.

Sorry that happened to you, but intending on keeping and actually taking a step and keeping the dog are not the same. Your neighbor was thinking the same thing, but acted on it. If you still are willing to give a dog your home, time, energy and love, then go to your local humane society or animal shelter and adopt one- you'll save a life doing this. We just took in an abandoned Pomeranian mix left across the street from us. I want to keep it, but we have many other animals and I promised my husband to find it a good home ( like mine if I get our daughter to beg).
