my dog got out of our house for approximately 5 min. now he doesn't bite but a neighbor of ours hates pit bulls. anyway, when the neighbor seen our pit out, he took the opportunity to get on his bike (may i add that he NEVER rides a bike) anyway, and had my dog and 2 stray dogs chasing him. well, my husband got our dog back in and the guy told my husband that he was calling the cops. well anyway cops came out and so did the animal control and they took my dog in for quarantine. however, i KNOW for a fact that my dog did not bite this man, it was one of the other 2 dogs if he even got bit at all. is there anything i can legally do. my dog got pickedup wrongfully, andits going to cost around 200.00 to get him out and if we don't they will automatically put him to sleep.

i know for a FACT, MY DOG DIDN'T DO IT. i was watching from my window the entire time while my husband was getting the dog back inside. my dog was chasing the guy but so were 2 other dogs, and the other dogs were keeping up with the guy but my dog wasn't.

unfortunately aside from hiring a lawyer and having a bite mold made of your dog and matched to the bite on your neighbor, you're not going to be able to prove this. it's going to be expensive, but i would love for a pit's owner to stand up like this. unless the bite is obviously from a smaller dog or much larger one, there's no cheap way to prove this. i know it was an accident, but since pits are ranked above the terrorists on threat level right now, there's nothing much you can do expect bail your baby out and not let the dog get loose again. good luck. sorry about your neighbor.

honestly even with scratches as long as you are the only witness it's your word against his. hopefully someone will see things your way. hopefully the neighbor will mess up and be nutty around the right person. but i've seen all too often, you will be labeled as a pit owner. and that alone, sadly will make your neighbor's word better than yours. talk to your neighbors see if someone else saw what happened. that is your only hope.

I am sorry this happened to you, and i think they took your dog ONLY because he is a pit bull. What kind of dogs were the other two? A lot of people falsely accuse pit bulls of biting. My friend has 5 dogs, 3 labs, a pit bull, and a cocker/lab mix. When the dogs were outside one of them bit her neighbor...it was the cocker mix. BUT she told the police it was the pit bull. i don't know why they do this, pit bulls are naturally sweet to humans. So she did go to court to fight this, and she won. I don't know if your case will go that far. But you are right that they can't prove which dog bit, or even if the man did get bit. Just wait the 10 days, they do this to make sure the dog doesn't have rabies, and hopefully you will have him back after that. I am so sorry to hear this, i know pit bulls are wonderful dogs, and very sweet natured, but a lot of people blame them for things they didn't do, just because of their breed. i want to add something, someone said if you were to guess who bit, a pit bull or golden retriever, most people would pick the pit. Well, unfortunately he is right, and obviously this is that the animal control assumed. But i work at a vet clinic, and have volunteered at an animal shelter, of all the dogs i've met, pit bulls are THE most friendly dog, never been bit by one. Of all the dogs i've been bitten by, a golden retriever did the MOST damage, leaving scars on my face. I hate stereotypes, either of those strays could have bit that man.

Your dog shouldn't be chasing anyone!!! Really, what do you expect when you have a dog chasing someone? Unless you can prove it wasn't him, there is nothing you can do. And just the fact that he was chasing the guy shows he is aggressive to the court and animal control.

Just because you say he didn't do it isn't enough, do you have any neighbors who saw this all take place? Talk to them.

I am sorry but dogs should not be chasing people PERIOD!!!

What you need to do to prove that your dog did not bite this person is to somehow get a measurement of the dog bite on your neighbor and then see if it matches your dogs bite radius. It might be difficult, but when it comes down to this or having your dog put down, I think I would contact your local law enforcement and have them help you out. If your neighbor was really bit, he/she should not have a problem in doing this. And tell the people who took your dog to do this or you will call a lawyer.

And don't listen to people telling you that your dog is bad cuz it's a pit bull. But you do need to be careful that it doesn't get out without a leash, cuz they can scare people.

Ask the neighbor if you can pay his hospital bill. At that time he will tell you how serious the bite is.. If he won't show you the bite, there is none..Be sure to take a witness that isn't from your own family..
When you know there is not a bite, call animal control and complain. Tell the neighbor you are going to sue him for harassment and false reporting...and DO it if he doesn't back down and tell the police.

Pitbulls are the most dangerous breed of dog you can have, they are doing you a favour. I'm not sure what the law is where you are but in the UK breeding or exchanging a pit bull is against the law under the dangerous dogs act 1985. They are so unpredictable, please just let it go for everyones sakes.

You are probably going to be at fault because you did not use reasonable care to keep the dog up and away from people and if this goes to court you are going to be fined . I m sorry but that is how the law will look at it . i hope that in the future you will use proper care when putting this dod up in your yard . Otherwise the same thing might happen again . good luck to you.

You're incredible, blaming the entire world for your killer dog, probably just like your alcohol problem. Your dog should not get out, it did bite that guy, and you're gonna blame him for a loose dog chasing him? You're a true nut job, I don't even know how you got hold of a computer.

Pit Bulls are dangerous and you should not have let him get out.
If you cannot be responsible for your dangerous dog don't expect us to care.

you know, i really hate people who are cruel to dogs and say mean **** about them. Im truly sorry about your situation, im a dog lover myself. i dont think there is anything you can really do except pay the 200 or do that bite mold thing somebody mentioned. good luck! and please dont let him escape again, there are worse things that can happen to him on the roads then a false bite accusation.
