Some of these "gun for hire" companies only want ex special forces, and the rest only want ex law enforcement, or ex military. I think it may be harder to do than you think.

Check Soldier Of Fortune magazine (on most magazine racks) for leads.
Most of the reputable mercenary companies are going to want you to have some experience with weapons, explosives, military tactics, etc. Not having a life here is not much incentive for them to hire you.
Get a student loan, go back to school, learn a marketable trade and make a better life.
