No, as most airlines will not accept a sedated dog. You can give him Chamomile tea, though. Just dump it out of the teabag, and give a teaspoon for a small breed, up to a tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a *small* amount of canned food...Given before a stressful situaltion, it relieves stress and anxiety. But don't tell the airline he has been sedated, because it isn't a sedative.
You can check with your airline and your vet about any other sedative.

Most airlines recommend lightly sedating a dog to ship it as cargo(especially on a long flight). It is much safer for the dog and it take away some of the liability of the airline (they do not have to worry so much about the dog escaping or freaking out). You will just need to get a prescription from the vet and give it to the dog 30 minutes before you leave. You may also want to check with the airline, some will allow small and medium breeds ride in the cabin as a carry-on.

Hawaii from anywhere is a pretty long flight. Before flying you'll need to get a health certificate from your vet. If your vet believe tranquelizing the dog is in order he/she will likely prescribe the pills right then.
As a military working dog handler I travel with my dog quite often. You'll be told but don't feed your dog shortly before the flight. If you give bag kibble style dog food, this will be almost the intire day prior to flying, as it takes longer to digest. For dogs that experience motion sickness or anxiety diarreha some Immodium AD never hurts.

I have traveled many times with dogs. What you can do is go to PetCo or PetSmart and they have natural sedatives. They are not harmful and are made for especially for dogs. I know of ones called Calm-X or Quiet Ease. Make sure you give the correct dosage for your dogs weight. Also put cotton balls in their ears so that they are not as effected by the noise. Give them a blanket in their crate and their favorite toy and they will be just fine. Also make sure the airline gives you the ticket that says your dogs have been loaded on the plane before you take off. If the flight-attendant forgets remind them.

Ask the vet about it, and check with the air company if the pet area is in the cabin or in the kluggage compartment. If the dog is in an area with low temperature and thinner air, perhaps it might be dangerous for his breathing to be tranquilised.

When you do fly with this dog make it very clear to the airline that if anything happens to your dog you will sue their pants off . i have had expieirience with this and am now in negoiations with a major airline due to the fact that my dog expired shortly after an airline trip!!Make it very clear that if the least little thing happens that injures him or makes him uncomfortable in any way you will own their airline !!!!! Be very clear about that . Animals are treated horribly by the airlines. good luck .
