If you want a happy, healthy relationship, "giving wings" is the way to go because the act of giving your partner wings relies on a certain amount of trust in the other person and trust in yourself; being confident enough that this person is devoted to you as well. Mind you, this is a gamble, but if you have the right person, it is well worth it. "Holding fast," on the other hand, may show itself in unhealthy relationships as it is a sign of insecurity and neediness. Healthy relationships involve people who are confident, secure with who they are, and rather than being needy towards the other, they can be interdepended on each other. Hope this helps!

If you hold love to close and to tight you will smother it and it will die. Just like what happens if you hold somene to tightly and cut off their air supply.
