I just started violin, but am really not interested in Classical since I do that on piano.. I find the Gypsy violin style the absolute pinnacle for solo mastery. But I don't really know how to get beginner materials or scales. My violin teacher only knows how to teach classical/suzuki, etc.

Try these scales:

Hungarian Gypsy
1 2 b3 #4 5 b6 7 8
C-D-Eb-F#-G-Ab-B-C

Persian Gypsy
1 b2 3 4 5 b6 7 8
C-Db-E-F-G-Ab-B-C

Hungarian Major

The "Gypsy Violin" - Book/CD By Mary Ann Harbar is a popular book. Although it is not a beginners book.
