i wouldn't beat them. but i sure wouldn't let them be the ones that think they are the boss and think they could do as they please. as a parent you should put your foot down at a early age. are they will get older and step all over you. and they will try run things around the house. if child are kid see you do somethen. they going think its alright for them to do it. watch what you say and do in front of them.

Yes, it is definitely wrong and I was honestly hoping that hitting for "discipline" went out with the end of the last decade! We are learning many more ways now to discipline our children better and more effectively! What do you think you will teach your child about hitting if you hit them and tell them not to hit someone else?
Back in the good old days of the 50's and 60's we were hit and spanked for "discipline" but there was so much anger and frustration that it was turned into abuse! Hey, just watch the super Nanny on tv... she has all the answers! ;0) Good luck!

A pop on the butt for a young kid, NO, there is nothing wrong with that. It should never be done if you are frustrated, and it really should only be done when all other reasoning and attempts at discipline have not gotten through.
Some people believe you should never spank a child. I can understand that. But at the same time, if I see little "Johnny" pick up a block in anger, smash it into little Jimmy's face and bust his lip, then I think little Johnny needs a swift pop on the butt.
But that's it. Slapping a kid across the face, hitting them across the head, smacking them in the arm or back or anywhere else should NOT be done.

It is not wrong to spank a child across the bottom for discipline as long as it is NOT done in anger and they know why they are being punished. Spanking is not hitting (as in the face) but should only be used after other methods of discipline (time out, etc) are used.

From personal experience, spanking is fine as long as you're not on a rampage. It would also depend on the relationship you have with your children. If you're only interaction is disipline, then no, that won't help, I doubt anything you do will. The point of disipline is so they understand why. Communication and understanding is just as important as the punishment (spanking or time out).
To those that would never "spank" their kids, mental abuse is worse, and the scars run much deeper. Don't kid yourselves.

It isn't wrong the Bible and law encourages it. The Bible Say's spare the rod spoil the child. The law in CA Say's you can spank with your hand and not with any object. It is good to spank a child on the butt or thigh if they disobey you, but make sure your in control, and not doing it out of anger. Just don't do it abusively, and every time you have to spank them like if they are turning the knobs on the stove, you have to explain why they got hit. I hit their hand and tell them don't touch that's a no no, and dangerous.

Yes. I never thought about the thing that I had done wrong, I only behaved because I was scared of being hurt. I also started to hit my sisters when they were mean. There are other ways, which focus on reflection of their actions and privledges being taken away.
Fear is never the answer.
Never.

Yes. Why do parents hit kids? Because they can. Because they are small and defenseless. Can you really go around hitting other adults because they have broken a vase or are annoying you when you are on the phone?
Its really horrible. And what does it teach kids- to fear the parent, that violence is a good solution to end conflict and that discipline involves pain.
I have been whacked around plenty as a child and it taught me to hate my parents. I cant tell you what an uphill task it is for me not to hit my children, not to turn into my parents.
Most important lessons I learnt and remember and carry with me are ones that were taught with love and compassion.

It depends on the situation. If they can not be disciplined in any other way that is effective I would suggest that first. If you have no other choice and they do not comprend the consequences of doing something wrong then in very rare situations and as a total last resort physical punishment maybe necessary.

Its actually the worst way to discipline your child because as a result of these beatings, your child becomes less likely to trust you again and they become disobedient to their parents and thats how they become involved in violence and drugs because they know that their parents beat the good out of them and they should do the same by committing violent acts for what they want. Discontinue this way of discipline before its too late.

Hurting a child as form of discipline does not work, so much so it became illegal to hit a child. You can go to jail.
