All medicines have side-effects, but to various degrees. What to take should depend on the cause of your backpain.
Oddly enough, I'm dealing with a pinched nerve right now, and I've found that naproxen sodium does a lot to alleviate the pain. Like most non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, it can cause stomach problems which can be lessed by taking it with food. I've found, however, that it carries this effect much less than aspirin or ibuprofen and it's more effective than acetaminophen (which can also damage the liver and should not be taken with alcohol). Of course, as a person with different body chemistry than mine, you may find different results.
You should research this drug (an any drug) for full information before deciding to take it regularly.

I used IBprofen which usually helped but it made me so constipated that I had incredible pain/bleeding during a bowel movement. So I don't reccomend taking IBprofen daily , that's for sure.
Now a days I use a heating pad and sometimes an ice pack works too! (it numbs the area) I would just use a bag of peas, works wonderfully. Stretching seems to work well too, but I have to stretch for at least 40 minutes and sometimes pushups work nicely for some reason. (mine is upper shoulder area) Good luck.

I suffered for years with back pain until I had a cortozone shot. Hurt like heck going in but never had pain since. No side effects either.

Try Bio-freeze, it is a topical ointment, you get it a prescription or from a pharmacy, the side effects it has is the same as with any type of reg. lotion. Every thing made has side effects of some kind, you sometimes have to try to see what effects will effect you.

EVERY DRUG HAS A SIDE EFFECT, IF IT IS TAKEN ORALLY I THINK THE BEST WAY TO GET RID OF BACK PAIN IS A GOOD MASSAGE WITH A GOOD ANTI RHEUMATIC, ANTI MUSCULOSKELETAL OR ANTI INFLAMMATORY OINTMENT, CREAM, OR LOTION AND THAN GIVE A HEATING PAD.
