It just pains me sometimes the power that religion has. I myself am catholic, but do not follow the word and question my religion. Does that make me a bad person? I love and respect everyone. Yet I can't even have a cup of coffee with an all-Christian family.
This non-acceptance in today's religious society is what pains me. Follow your god, follow your beliefs, and you will have my utmost respect, but can you respect my beliefs as well? Don't distance yourself from me, call me evil, and tell me angrily that I will go to hell. If that is my choice then it is mine and mine alone. Please respect, not hate. Is that so much to ask for? Is peace too much to ask for? It will never happen I know, but I'm just simply wondering.
This is the only reason why I do not like religion sometimes.

Hey, I follow the teachings of Islam but my bf is a Roman Catholic. He's the same way. He believes God is God and that life wasn't intended to be so hard.

As Gandhi once said "Even as a tree has a single trunk but many branches and leaves, there is one religion — human religion — but any number of faiths." In other words, all paths lead to God.
My own thought is that why would I want to believe in a religion that believes in a God that says there is only one religion and that if anyone else believes different then the rest go to "hell" despite how good they lead their lives??
I do not want to go on a rant and voice a long opinion so I will leave it with Gandhi's words who said it best...
P.S. catalog www.northernsun.com has a great shirt I love called Co-Exist with all the major religions (symbols) in peace
Many blessings,
Jen

If all Christian families are treating you with no respect- I am SO sorry for that. But if they really do care about your life and where you will spend eternity, and sharing with you in love, that is different, That is what God calls us to do. If Christians are distancing themselves then that is wrong. Jesus spent time with unbelievers, and sinners while here on earth. You do not have to like religion- but remember that Christianity is really a relationship- and my prayer is that you meet this God, through scripture and also through people who truly love Jesus and you.

You are right: religions teach mutual love and respect. If people treat each other with apathy, it is because religious teachings are not observed by the majority of believers.
The situation will be changed only when each mature believer try to practice first: we don't ask other people to do, but we ourselves must do. In my own experience, I see that people up here and people around me are very spiritual, very religious, very godly.

You're right! Study the Bible, the only true Word of God, for all religions are man-made - with each having their own interpretations, rules, ceremonies, rituals, etc., yet not one is scripturally based! (How do so many people get duped?!).

If you don't believe what Catholicism teaches, DON"T CALL YOURSELF A CATHOLIC.
Why are you clinging to the title? Just say "I'm not Catholic, its not what I believe"
If you want to make up your own beliefs, go ahead, but the name "CATHOLIC" is already taken and they have set there framework of beliefs. If you don't believe what they believe, you can't be one.

Trust me, you could have a cup of coffee with my family -- practicing Catholics all -- with no problems. In fact, not just coffee -- stay for dinner!
What is it about Catholicism that you question? Feel free to PM me or email me at encarnacionjulia@yahoo.com.

It does not make you a bad person. Jews are actually instructed to question their beliefs and laws. Asking questions is part of interpreting God's words, and helps us understand better what it is we're supposed to be doing here.
I accept your beliefs. My best friend is Catholic. Accept mine back, please.
