I'm not sure that my incision if infected, but I had a baby boy about three weeks ago and my incision has looked good up until now, it is a little bit more tender, and it is a deep red, the incision its self is not open and there is no drainage, so I cant tell if its sore and red because of infection or because I started to wear some of my tighter fitting pants again, anyone have an anwser, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there...

I had a wicked emergency c/section, and then a normal c/section. I can tell you that if it's not draining, you're probably good. The deep red is the color it will turn before it starts to seriously heal. Did you have to have your staples out, or did you have the plastic surgery incision where the sutures are on the inside?

When you start wearing normal pants again, it irritates it, but that is pretty normal. Just watch for it to run a fever in the spots where you suspect that there may be an infection. The spot will get really hot and you'll want to have that looked at.

Another fun thing is that it will remain numb for a long, long time. Well...I mean, Logan, my last child is going to be 2 in March, and my regular c/section is still numb. Sam, the culprit for the awful hack job of a c/section is going to be 5 in July and parts of that are still numb too.

Just watch for crusty discharge and oozing and the fever in or around the incision.

And...congratulations on your new baby!!!

If there is no drainage, that's a good sign. My incision popped open and got infected, and there was drainage and it was very sore.

The redness could have something to do with the pants you are wearing or maybe because you are becoming more active. It can also be a sign of healing. My scar turned red as it healed.

If I were you, I'd get it checked out by your doctor. If you suspect an infection, it's important for them to take care of it right away. (My incision was cleaned and packed daily for about 6 weeks by a nurse, and I was given an antibiotic. It didn't fully heal until about 8 weeks post partum.) You need to be healthy and ready to take care of your new little guy and you don't want an infection to delay the healing process.

P.S. Congratulations! :)

I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL, BUT MY INCISION DID HAVE DRAINAGE, WHICH DOESNT NECESSARILY MEAN A BAD THING, CONSIDERING THAT IF IT DIDNT DRAIN, THEN ALL THAT STUFF WOULD STAY INSIDE YOU AND MIGHT CAUSE SOMETHING INSIDE. MY MOM DROVE ME CRAZY AFTER THE SURGERY. SHE WOULD TELL ME DONT DO THIS DONT DO THAT. FOR EXAMPLE SHE WOULD TELL ME THAT DRIVING WAS BAD FOR ME?!? I WAS LIKE COME ON MOM YOUR OVERREACTING. BUT I GUESS THINGS AFFECT PEOPLE MORE THAN OTHERS. TRY HOLDING OFF ON THE SEXIER AND SLIMMER PANTS, AND KICK IT IN SWEATS FOR A COUPLE DAYS, IF YOU FEEL BETTER, THEN MAYBE IT WAS THE PANTS, IF YOU STILL FEEL LIKE SOMETHING ISNT RIGHT, TELL YOUR DOCTOR. HE MIGHT TELL YOU ITS NORMAL BUT AT LEAST YOU KNOW FOR SURE.

You should have your doctor check it at least to make sure. If it is getting more tender and red, it could be getting infected. You need to have it evaluated by your doctor.
