There are two poodles under 4 pounds at the doggy day care...they are not related to each other. Both are hypoglycemic..that is why they MUST be in day care while owners are working..If you know how to manage and prevent hypoglycemia, ( http://www.gopetsamerica.com/dog-health/hypoglycemia.aspx ) your poodle can live as long as other poodles, which is a good long life...read this for expert advice>Teacup care:: http://www.homestead.com/sharminspoodles/TeacupCare.html
You would do better to get a poodle that is expected to grow to 5 pounds.

Teacup poodles have problems. But if you go up in size to a Toy, you won't find nearly as many problems. I have a toy poodle, he weighs eight pounds and is full of love and is a sweetie. He's very smart. He's 12 years old and has never had any serious health problems. Poodles do tend to have ear infections, however, because of the shape of the ear canal - so if you get one, have their ears cleaned every time you get them groomed.

By the way, on what Island do you live? I live on Oahu.

you are not going to find an expert in teacup anything. there is no such breed as teacup poodle. there is a toy poodle though. you need to find a breeder who breeds toy and not teacup poodles. then you need to research the breeder and make sure you can see where the pup was raised and at least one parent. as for health problems many toy poodles live anywhere from 12-18 years. that's a pretty healthy life. yes they are small and are prone to injury. research the breed and find out how you can prevent it. make sure you are prepared to pay for regular vet visits for vaccines, checkups, heartworm and flea preventative and a spay or neuter. also exercise the dog regularly by walking them. this will help build their muscles and not make them as prone to injury. always keep funds available for emergency though, as you never know if you'll need it. hopefully you won't. if you take care of this dog, and are ready financially and physically to properly care for the dog, and have researched the breed and breeder then you should have a great companion for many years. good luck.

Teacup poodles are basically a dwarf of a dwarf. The toy poodle is already a smaller version of the miniature poodle, and the teacup is very fragile. Teacup poodles, therefore, typically have deformed genitals, trouble breathing, and brittle bone structures. If they jump out of your arms when you hold them, or fall down, they will suffer broken bones. This is especially dangerous since smaller dogs tend to be aggressive. Like people, dogs have inferiority complexes. In the dog world, size does matter, and smaller dogs try to make up for their puppy like size by biting and barking more. It is not uncommon for a small dog to bite and bark more frequently. Finally, smaller dogs are bred off runts. And, like runts, they tend to act like puppies longer. This sounds cute theoretically, but it actually means that it's harder to train them (and house train them!)
Think about your neighbors and all the potential lawsuits! And then think of the veterinary expenses. A tiny dog might look cute, but once the medical bills pile up and the lawsuites start coming in, and you can't sleep because of it's barking, and it pisses on your designer shoes, this dog becomes a pest!

You should check the breed standard on the AKC site, and you will see that there is nothing for a "teacup" anything. This is a term used by bad breeders to sell the "runts of the litter" for more money. You also will potentially have a dog that has a much higher risk of health issues later down the line.

Recognized sizes are Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Terms like "teacup" or "royal" do not represent any standard; they are "marketing" terms and indicate sizes that DO NOT meet the standard.

Not true, they live longer than a larger dog. And they are not that frail either. As puppies, yes you have to be more careful. As far as hypoglycemia, that can happen with any puppy, but smaller puppies are more prone to it. However, it is not a problem after the age of 4 months.

I have a tiny Yorkie, she weighs 3 pounds and is almost 2. So I went through all of that when she was little.

Do not , I repeat do not get a teacup breed of any sort. They may look cute but have fragile bones and can have many problems which will cost you a fortune in the long run. By buying teacup dogs you are supporting backyard breeding and dodgy deals. If people don't buy teacup dogs then gradually less people will sell them and they will virtually become extinct so do NOT buy one!!!

I had a puppy toy poodle a couple of months ago we paid way too much for it so be careful! most people try to charge more because its a "tea cup" size.. The pet store we ended up selling her to said the asking price should have been no more than 500$ so don't pay more!!

this dog was the loudest, most obnoxious &messy dog I have ever owned I also had a kerry blue terrier which even for a terrier was a good dog now i have a chihuahua which is perfect... I know chihuahuas arent the cutest breed but if its a mix with something else (ex. mine is Min Pin & Chihuahua wherever I go I'm stopped and asked what kind she is, who my breeder is, how much I paid, and let me know she is the cutest dog they've ever seen.. one lady even offered a nice amount of money for her but I cant let her go!)

the toy poodle wouldn't ever listen I had alot of obidience problems with her I was evicted from my apartment because she was so loud. I will never get a toy poodle again but if you have no life and will dedicate it to your pup I can see why you would want one I had to be home 24/7 and up at strange hours of the night or she would bark her cute little face drew me in but her annoying habits made me run away.. Good Luck!
