No they don't. VERY few people change their last name, except for marriage.

to define you. I am probably the only one on the planet with my names.

if you were just called Glen, there are millions, but through in a surname and location and it narrows you down to a few individuals.

originally names were from occupations or some event or landmark. this defined your story. now our actions define our stories, and we see them on Americas most wanted all the time.

a rose by any other name is still a rose, and you cant change your spots.

Surnames are useful in showing family lineage. In fact that is the only real purpose in having and using them, in my opinion.

People change their names for a verity of reasons. They do not like it for starters, they become famous, for professional reason. Not everyone does it because they can. Frankly I like mine and will keep it thank you.

I think it's so you will always know where you have come from. The heritage of your ancestors. Hopefully you can carry on that name with pride.
