No, it is NOT okay to smack him on the head and say "NO", unless you want to be sure he is afraid of hands.
He is growling because he is unsure of what you want. He is trying to get you to back off so he can be comfortable.
Be firm. Being firm doesn't mean being harsh. Stop trying to drag him outside. First, coax him outside, using a happy voice. Start making good associations with you trying to take him outside. Get your hands off him. Only Alpha wannabees physically push or use force to get what they want.
If you use force on him, he will learn to use force to get what he wants. Attach a short leash to his collar. Practice reaching for his collar with one hand as you feed him a yummy treat with the other hand. Gradually work up to holding the collar while you feed the treat, then pulling lightly on the collar while you feed the treat.
He will learn to love having you reach for his collar. If he growls, just tell him Stop, in a firm conversational tone, not a scary tone.
When he stops growling, praise him for doing so.

it can be normal for any type of dog. he's trying to resist what you are asking him to do. you need to put a stop to this now. when he growls at you, say NO in a firm, but not yelling or angry voice, and place him in the sit position saying SIT. when you put him on his leash, it's perfectly normal for a puppy to resist this at first. when he does walk with you, praise him and keep walking. give him time to get used to the collar and leash. let him wear it around the house, as long as you can watch him. if he does resist you on the leash keep giving gentle tugs while calling him to you, once he makes any movement towards you, praise him. when he's old enough, neuter him and enroll him in a training class. the class will bond you two closer and teach him you are his leader and to be respected and listened to and not challenged. this is a strong willed breed, but in the right hands a great dog. if you have any training questions, contact your local pit rescue they will have great tips. they want him to stay in your house and not end up with them. good luck.

You need to put a stop to this right away before he gets older. thats how some dogs get aggressive. when my pit was a pup he used to growl at me when i stared at him. now he looks away, because he know who is the boss.
like people who aren't educated, dogs act out of impulse and tend to do bad/horrible things out of their emotion, instead of using their head to solve a problems. so training your dog will help stimulate his mind and help him to make smarter decision about doing certain unwanted behavior like, growling at you. let him know that you're the leader of the pack and not him.
when he growls just say NO in a firm loud voice. if that doesnt work, grab him by the nose, and say it again even louder. this is how a mother dog discipline her pup when they step out of line.
in the animal kingdom this is how stuff work as well. The alpha k-9 have to show no fear and step his foot down when he have to. it pretty much all about respect.
good luck
ps pit bull have the tendency to like to pull when walking them (that why they are good at pulling games), make sure to train your dog not to do that or each time you walk him in the future it going to look you are walking up one of those San Francisco street.

maybe try not to pull the collar would you like that? aggressive behaviour from owners results in aggressive behaviour from dogs. firstly, if they growl at you say a firm "NO" in a low tone, then proceed to put them outside by some way other than dragging by the collar. Ignore any bad behaviour from the dog. if you say no to a dog doing something bad you have to catch them in the act of doing it too as they don't remember doing it an hour later etc i found the isolation technique for bad behaviour works best. i wouldn't say it's the breed all breeds have the potential to have behavioural problems. if you are concerned maybe seek some professional dog training.

Put a harness on him, instead of a collar, and just be firm and make him go out for walks. A harness won't harm him if you have to pull on it, and is less threatening to him..However, he HAS to learn that you are the boss..
If you don't teach him to respect you, he will be one of the pit bulls that we read about.
the problem with pit bulls isn't that owners teach them to be mean, but that owners don't train them at all, and they think they are the boss, having no respect for humans or other dogs.

Booya, you're ignorant... And a jerk! Pits are no longer toddler killers. in basic terms enable them to play, while the westie squeels it relatively is coaching your pit that it hurts, this is something that she could have found out from her muddle acquaintances yet could have not had of project to. i might enable it pass on for a mutually as and locate out how far it relatively might pass to work out if possibly this pit desires to work out a behavioralist. yet for now do no longer difficulty approximately your canine getting harm, your pitty nevertheless has domestic dog tooth. If the pit hasn't found out with in a pair weeks that it hurts attempt putting her on a protracted leash to maintain a focussed eye on her, every time she does something alarmingly incorrect lead her out the front door and stand outdoors along with her till she calms down. Take her back in as though it in no way got here approximately and repeat the approach quite a few situations. you have the flexibility to fixing this prob. in one day. Please please please do no longer provide up on her. i'm confident she's an extremely vast sweetheart and that i might hate to pay attention of her ending up in a guard.

The dog is young and is not use to the collar and certainly does not like you tugging on it. Try teaching the dog to go outside with instead of pulling on him. Try to give the dog a reason to go out and also try speaking to your dog; they might not understand every word that you say, but in time they understand most of what you say to them.

Yeah its normal, my bf has a baby pit, where he's still a pup, i wouldnt be too harsh on him, but as he gets older teach him who's boss, we have a dog that gets pissed if any animal or baby gets near him when he's sleeping and he snaps, but we smacked him and told him no everytime he did it to us and now he doesnt, so when he gets a little older, just start to tell him no and show him who's boss!

You need to make sure your dog understands that you are the alpha in your home and not tolerate this behavior. Has nothing to do with the "breed" of your dog either. Any breed can be like this, some are just more dominant than others.
