is it true if you ask an undercover cop if he is a cop that he has to tell you?

Not only will "undercover" officers lie about being police, it's legal for other police officers and detectives to lie to you under certain circumstances. For instance, they can tell you that your best buddy just ratted on you or that they're pretty sure they know where you hid that billion dollars that you swiped from the corner hotdog vendor - so you might as well fess up. It's just trickery to try to get you to think they know something that they don't. Just tryin' to do their jobs for us.

(Even though all of us know that YOU wouldn't tell anyone else if an undercover cop told you that they're an undercover cop.)

Not true. The police, whether undercover or not, can lie to you at any point to further an investigation. An undercover cop will absolutely not tell you that he/she is a cop if you ask.

No it isn't true.
An undercover officer only has to identify themself when they make an arrest.

I have never been a policeman nor undercover policeman, but YES it's true.
