If I were to use baking soda as a common cooking ingredient, like as freely as salt or oil, would this have any negative health effects?

Thanks!

I know it is used sparringly in baking, and there isn't really any negative effects of that.

Baking soda is fine unless you're eating more than a couple of tablespoons a day. Doctors used to prescribe baking soda as an antacid because it neutralizes stomach acid. You're fine. As suggested, I would look into getting a blood test done. It does sound like a deficiency of some sort. Maybe potassium?

In the olden days, if someone was having heartburn he would take a teaspoon of baking soda. Some people still do. It is an anti-acid!

I am sure no one could over consume baking soda, as it tastes horrible on its own.

Baking soda is high in sodium and as a rule, it's use should be limited.
Sodium bicarbonate is considered to be relatively safe, however consumption of large amounts should be avoided.

In food, sodium is present mainly in table salt. As a rule, 1 teaspoon of salt supplies 2000 mg of sodium. Some sodium in the diet comes from compounds such as sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), sodium citrate (a preservative), and monosodium glutamate (MSG, a flavor enhancer).
If you have high blood pressure, reduce the amount of sodium (of all kinds) that you ingest

A craving for it is called "pica" (same as craving dirt). Eating too much will put you into "alkalosis". This could also indicate you have a kidney problem. Make sure you talk to a doctor about it.
