OK, my brother in law is a really great guy. He's hard working, kind, and genuinely caring. He'd been seeing a woman who had a couple of kids from past relationships. He was good to her kids, good to her, and really liked her. She played him along, telling him she didn't want a relationship but then encouraging him to come around. Now she told him that she doesn't even want to be friends anymore and he's devastated. My question is: Why do so many women complain that there aren't any good guys around, but when there is a good guy women treat him like crap until he isn't anymore?

Unfortunately, a lot of women complain for the sake of it. I know that a lot of my female friends complain that they can't find a decent guy and that men are pigs who only think about sex, but this is because they're looking for men in the wrong places, they have ridiculous standards or because that's what everyone else does.
Mass media can convince people of a lot of things and in the case of women, it aims to tell us that make up is important, chocolate is better than sex and that men aren't in touch with their emotions, don't care about ours and only think of us in terms of bedmates.
Gender stereotypes are unfortunately one conversation topic that everyone joins in on and the media mostly perpetuates all of them. There have been times when I have found myself shocked but unsurprised when one single man seemed to conform to the cliches; that's how strong those messages of stereotypes can be.
My advice for your brother in law would be to hang in there because he will find a woman worthy of him. One day, some smart woman will snap him up like the catch he is.

There might be alot of reasons why it didn't work out. It's obvious she is afraid of commitment, seeing her track record isn't so good. And anyway, you weren't there and you are only hearing his side of the story.How do you know he treated her so well?By what he tells you?How do you know what REALLY happened?
And also don't stereotype that all women are like this. There are plenty women and men out there in happy relationships.
The same could go for SOME men. They always whine about how they want a good girl, but then they go for the sl uttiest girl in town. Think about it.

God I wish I knew the answer. My boyfriend could be a really really good guy if all his exgirlfriends hadn't screwed up his head. Now even the most irrelevent thing makes him think that I'm cheating on him.
Maybe those women treat the rare good guy like crap because they are used to crappy dudes?

some women arent looking for good guys...seriously. some women wouldnt know what to do w/ a good man espescially if they're used to as.s holes.somewomen also like the thrill of having some one challenging....b/c they may feel that the good guys are boring.what we need is not always what we want.it sounds immature, but some women are that way.some women feel that a guy has no life if he revolves his around hers.... but then again, there are also very mature women who are tired of games & simply want someone who is simply good.

well for me, its just their defense mechanism to hide their fears and for them to avoid heartaches. most women (like your brother's girl) tell all people there arent any good guys around coz they have this dark pasts in their life (like having kids with the other guy) Theyre afraid that gud guys may not accept them for their dark past.
with your brothers situation, maybe the girl is just afraid that your brother might change his mind and decided to look for a girl that has no kids and more decent that she is. maybe shes worrying that in time, he might realize that she's not worth his love becoz of her past.
for your brother, maybe he needs to tell the girl that his intention were pure and true and that he accepts her with all his hearts and her past is no longer matter to him. maybe that way, she might realize that your brother is different from his past boyfriends and try to trust your brother.

i don't feel that way at all
i feel that there are plenty of really great men out there
i don't treat my men like crap either -- take them out, buy them presents, cook for them, do stuff with themXD, do favors, watch porn with them...
but then again...
all of my hobbies are the classic "guy" hobbiesXDXDXD

i am a girl who is looking for a good guy. not all girls do that. she was crazy for doing that!!! good guys are really hard to find now and she was very lucky!

Your brother-in-law didn't have his she-devil radar on. She tried to tell him and he didn't listen. He shouldn't be surprised. He was warned. Sorry, but he has nothing to complain about.
