This article may be of help to you. Just please forget that you read where it says to yell at the dog> How to litter box train a dog: http://www.kturby.com/litter/litter.htm
there is a product in pet supply shops, and at Walamrt, called Nature's Miracle.. It is an enzyme cleaner that really works to get rid of doggy odors. Your local shop may recommend another brand that they carry.

All dogs are indoor dogs - no such breed as an "outdoor dog". Dogs want to be with their family, not locked outside alone - that's just plain cruel. Why bother to get a dog if you don't want him to live inside with you? You just need to figure out what you want in a dog and what is acceptable and comfortable to fit in with your family. Go to the local shelters, Humane Society, ASPCA, and look at the wonderful dogs there waiting for a good home - I am sure you will find a darling one. Of course puppies can be potty trained, it is done every day - but it takes time, work, and patience. You might be better off getting an adult dog that is already potty trained - again, try a shelter.

My dog is so well housebroken that he doesn't make messes anymore. He gets taken out quite a bit anyway, so there is no need for him to go on the floor. He knows when we get up in the morning, the first thing I do is let him outside. Then the first thing I do when I come home from work is let him outside. Then around dinner time he gets to go outside. Then around 8 or 9 he goes back outside. And then he goes out one last time before bed.

My dogs hate to have to go in the house but there are times when I know I'm going to be gone for longer than I feel it's fair to expect them to hold it.For those times I have a large piece of plastic sheeting I lay on the floor and cover it completely with newspaper.

For floors, just use something like windex or clorox. For carpets, first spray the windex to kill bacteria, then a stain removal spray, then soak it up and spray febreeze. Ive had my dog since he was a puppy and Ive done my fair share of cleaning up after him.

Have you tried to Kitty litter train him? Keeping a Diaper Genie beside the litter helps 100% with the smell.

If your dog could talk, he'd tell you he'd much rather
do his business outside, like the vast majority of other
dogs do. I love my own dog...he's my buddy. And I admit
I treat him too much like a human. But I'm not going to
force him to try to hit a pad.
