dogs chew for a variety of reasons. sometimes out of sheer bordom. do you regularly exercise your dog? if a dog is well exercised, often they will rest and not feel the need to chew. get a crate and keep your dog in there when you can't observe him, this will help keep him from chewing up things and keep him safe from chewing on things that can be harnful to him. good luck.

My dog was chewing well after a year old, past the "teething" phase. When I asked our vet, he told me that even tho a pup has lost all the puppy teeth, the adult teeth in place are still shifting within the jaw line into proper place, and that is why the urge to chew will still be there up until the age of 3 yrs for most dogs.
So if your dog is under 3 yrs, you may have some time yet before the chewing will pass. Consider crating when you cannot be there to watch and ensure your dog doesn't take to chewing anything he shouldn't.

How old is your dog? Some dogs go through a chewing phase longer than others. You may also need to give him somethings of his own and teach him that those are his and only his. Throw in something of yours and watch and see if he grabs it and tell him no. And then when he takes his chewing toys reward him. He could also be lonely if it only happens when you're not around, sometimes that gets out of hand. Hope these suggestions help.

nothing's wrong-dogs chew for many reasons. some find it soothing, some do it when they're bored, some just really like to chew. his teeth will stay cleaner longer if he enjoys chewing, so be thankful for that. just get him bones & toys & a variety of different things. good luck

Maybe he's bored and needs something to do. Maybe he just likes to chew. Buy him some toys and chew bones.

Quite often behaviour problems in dogs is a result of bordom. Make sure you walk your dog everyday, and that when you're not at home, that he has toys to play with.
