I have had at least one of each..but as pets, The Labs were the best pets.
They were the most fun loving of those dogs..The pit bull harmed my 3 year old daughter.

I at the moment have both a pit bull and a rottweiler. I love them both very much- but Rottweilers are so dang gassy. They are all good dogs but in term's of best to have I would have to say a labrador. All these dogs are great with children, but I've found the lab being the most gentle to have around. All of them are great dogs- I've owned each of every breed - they all are good pets that are loyal and protective.

1:Rottweiler...
My rott is cuddled up in bed with me right now. She is such a good pillow. She always has bad gas though. And she snores but she keeps me warm.
2: Labs. I grew up with a lab they are great dogs once the calm down.
the other two i don't know to much about but i am not a pit bull fan they are to aggressive for me. so i guess i would say dobie as 3 and pit as 4

1-Pit bull --they are the best dog. They are loyal, smart, easy to train, best kiss givers, and awesome with small children and babies! they didnt earn the nick name in the 50's of "nanny dog" for no reason!
2-rotty/dobie --love em both. Never had one or the other, but have had very positive encounters with them
4-lab ---dont like labs. hyper-active chewing monsters. Until they turn 6. Then they have a lot of large breed health problems. Perhaps most of it is the owner not training their dog, but I have only met 2 labs ever that i would spend more than a passing at a petstore with.
BUT! The rottie, dobie, and pit are not for first time dog owners. If a first time dog owner is interested, they should do so much research they know nothing but the breed(s) they are interested in.

1) Certain breeds in the category 'pit bull' were selectively bred for dog aggression. It's simply encouraging their prey drive to kick in and giving them a good feeling about it. Not to mention the access to illegal substances which some people in the fighting world most likely use on their dogs. So all in all it's not technically forcing them, it's encouraging the trait through genetics and 'conditioning'. ANY breed or mix of breeds can be used in fighting, 'pit bulls' are just commonly used and get the worst of the reputation for it. 2) I have seen others I like better. It's decent and may actually reach some although I doubt it. Most people involved in that style of life don't care about dogs and couldn't care less how cute they are. Until Dog fighting becomes a crime that has serious consequences idiots will continue to participate. 3) I believe in stricter enforcement of laws already in place as well as requiring a license/inspections to breed some of the bully breeds. I support OSL NOT BSL! 4) It's called a spring-pole and is basically tug-o-war without someone's shoulder being dislocated. I have one in my yard for my dogs. My neighbor and I both use it (it's on the property line) and neither of our dogs have dog aggression or can be classified as vicious (My male is fear-aggressive and has made progress in leaps and bounds. A stranger petted him the other day and he actually seemed to enjoy it.) Tug-o-war is a debate for many people. It does not encourage aggression on it's own however some people consider it an 'off-limits' activity for their dogs. There is nothing you can do unless the dog is allowed to run at large, shows aggression towards you while unsecured or actually goes after someone.

It depends on why you intend to have one of these dogs as part of your family.
My ranking -- because I like a dog that is both integrated into my family, yet also a fierce protector -- is as follows:
1 - Doberman
2 - Rottweiler
3 - Pit Bull
4 - Labrador
However, if a simple family companion is all you're looking for, then my order would be as follows:
1 - Labrador
2 - Doberman
3 - Rottweiler
4 - Pit Bull

depends what you want in a dog
I grew up with Dobermans and i love them. So number one if you want a gentle, inteeligent family dog but who will defend there territory ie if someone puts there hand over the fence they will bite it
2 lab i now have a lab x golden retriever and they are a great family dog and she is a good guard dog too! very hyperactive though!
4 rottweiler i don't like mucch ugly
5 pitbull illegal to own in Australia not a good track record really!
