i am a cook and i work 11 hour shifts. thus far i have been surviving on soda to keep me going. the caffene and sugar works but that means that i consume like 200 grams of sugar each day i work. i never gain weight but due to the sugar i don't lose it.

what would be the best vitamins and minerals i should buy to keep me going?

please and thank you.

I'm a cook too. You gotta cut out the sugar! It only gives you a quick boost, then you crash. A multi-vitamin would be best. And drink lots and lots of water as it is hot in the kitchen. :)

I know that this answer will cause controversy, but the biggest misnomer about vitamins is that they give energy. They don't.

Despite the numerous claims on the Internet, they are all pooey. Only in those rare cases where a person is truly iron deficient, would a person have more energy after taking a supplement.

You may simply need to get more rest, but if you continue feeling fatigued you should consult your doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

In the meantime, a well-balanced healthy diet combining foods from all the major food groups, especially fruits and vegetables, will provide you a good supply of vitamins and minerals and help sustain energy levels. Reducing the amounts of refined sugars and starches in your diet and switching to more nutritious foods rich in fiber, iron, wholegrain cereals, pasta and wholemeal bread should help too. These foods tend to be digested slowly and help to keep blood sugar levels stable. Eating small amounts of food every 4 hours can stabilize these blood sugar levels and give you energy throughout the day. If you still feel your fatigue is due to a lack of something in your diet, try a standard multivitamin supplement, like Centrum. It won't hurt, but again, they're not "pep" pills. If they were, I'd take 'em to help with my 14 hour shifts.

Hope this helps.

Wow, what a busy schedule. It sounds like you should try adding some Vitamin B and C into your routine along with some fish oil. There's something called ZipFizz that my super stressed husband mixes in his workout bottle that is full of good vitamins. I've included a link here for you to check out. Take care.

Good luck!

What sort of a cook are you??? Surely you should know the 5 food groups and what is required for a healthy diet. Try eating fresh fruit and vegetables. Make a fruit salad and munch on that during your spare moments. Pills aren't gonna help you, you're only making the companies who manufacture them wealthy.
