Like is it a law to do, or is it just safer because of the evil spirits that roam earth.

I mean I like to only cast a few spells here and there, but I sometimes dont feel that I should cast a circle first, but yet I feel it would be better to take the time to do it. Whats your say in this?

The answer depends on what magical tradition you are using. Ceremonial magic (yes), Voodoo (no), Folk magic (no), etc. What system do you use?

You are aware that the circle does not have to be a physical one aren't you? It may be comprised of personal power utilizing your athame (dirk in my case), in which you feel and visualize a sphere of energy around you. Just make sure that all the necessary items are within the circle before you begin so they will be enveloped as well. This hardly takes any time at all. It should keep all the evil out since you are willing it to do so. I rarely cast a physical circle.

No, there is not a law that says you MUST cast a circle or you will have bad things happen to you. It's really up to you whether or not you do it, but most of the time if it's a big spell that requires a lot of energy to be dispensed, it's usually a good idea to cast a circle a first.

According to most who practice magic the circle has two purposes, one is a barrier to keep out any forces that would be detrimental to the magical working and the other it o raise and increase the amount of enery available for the work at hand. I do it mostly for the energy raising, although the barrier aspect does help me to concnetrate so I would say that it shouldbe included for those reasons, but magic works best with what a person is comfortable with. If the circle seems unnecessary for some workings then using one would hamper your ability to work rather than enhance it. Us it when you feel it is necesary, and leave it out when you don't feel it is necessary. Just don't skip that step out of laziness, make certain that you are you don't need it for that particular working.

You don't need to draw a circle physically, just mentally project a circle of protection around yourself, get into the habit of doing this and soon it will become automatic, it's insurance against mishaps.
You can mentally project a circle of protection whether or not you are laying a spell at any time you feel it might be useful

Simple things like candle spells don't need a Circle first. If you are going to build a cone of Power, then yes.

I cast a circle before any ritual. small spells included.

the circle protects you from any negative energy in the area, and ensures a "clean" energy to cast your spell from.

i have a differant method of casting my circle, i do not have to do the whold spin around with finger/wand extended . (i used to have to do that to keep my concentration.) but now i wear a charged silver ring necklace. i pull energy from the ring, expand it and then drop it over myself and anything else that i feel should be protected at that time.

you will find as you progress that many things that books tell you are the required way to do something, are actually a set way for a beginner, many keep these traditions, and that is fine. many find new ways, and that is fine too.

No, there is no law that says you have to--but a circle does help protect you from things you aren't trying to attract and also it strengthens (concentrates) the spell's power.

If you are doing something simple, just draw a white light around you by doing deep cleansing breathes and imagining a white light around you then extending it around the area or room you are in.
