Because it is a matter of free will and good parenting. Of course children can't make the "best" choices and that's why we have parent(s)...the State makes a crappy parent (though technically it owns your kids if you filed a birth certificate).

Let me tell you that these drinks are not very harmful to the human body. Let's address the pesticide problem first. Why are Indians so naive that they don't realise that the pesticide comes from the water supply in the country? Why the false propaganda? Why not just compare a sample of water with a sample of coke? When some guy in the papers said that milk is more poisonous than coke, then jobless activists started demonstrating on the streets.
As for all those false claims saying that these drinks can dissolve a tooth/fly/blade overnight, let me ask you one thing: Have you ever tried it by yourself? Instead of forwarding emails that spread propaganda, why don't we pause for a minute to actually verify these claims? Knowing very well, that any lameassed person can compose a mail on any subject, why do we still believe in it?
There's an excellent website called http://www.snopes.com, which addresses such urban legends and categorizes them into true, false and categories in between. See the section called "coke-lore" on this website, and you'll find out that most of it is false propaganda, including the story of a Delhi University guy who dies after consuming many bottles of coke due to high levels of CO2. No need to ban these drinks. It's not like they're addictive. So if you don't like them, don't drink them.

if you shut down coke and Pepsi you are not only getting rid of cola products but Tropicana Orange juice, KFC, Taco Bell, Minute Maid, and other companies and products. It would be better if you did not drink coke or Pepsi products if you want to get ride of Carbonated Drinks. How are you going to say that in Moderation coke and Pepsi are bad for you? Remember you have to prove this to the government and these companies are making millions of dollars, employing allot of people, and paying taxes. You are talking about shutting down 2 giant companies. Never happen.

To seek a ban on these beverages, you must prove that they injurious to the health of the consumers. There are others beverage companies which have been doing business in India, before the arrival of Coke and Pepsi. If they are having a majority of the market share, it shows their marketing skill and the quality of their product. I think it smacks of jealousy and an irrational anti-foreign sentiment, to demand the ban of these drinks. I personally am not fond of these drinks. It is the society's high brows who consider it a symbol of status to consume the drinks and ads that promote the growth the drinks. Let there be a movement against the consumption of these drinks. But, what is the alternative? If you say, we must switch over to tender coconut and such like natural beverages, can they be cost effective? Our food habits should undergo a change. We must be prepared to take raagi, jowar especially in liquid form. The remainder of the cooked rice water is good for health. We must preserve and allow it ferment so that it could be used as a beverage.

Well junk food is what everyone prefers.... Even if you advice people , they take the advice in one ear and throw it out from the other ! This is what the television stars advertise... Why shud the Coca cola company shud down , when its making so much money and profit?? Its up to an individual to decide whether he/she would buy a fruit drink or a can of pepsi.

I suggest that we stop bad parenting. I do not drink because it is bad for me but that does not mean that you should not.
