When he washed up on shore he found a piece of meat. He was starving so he ate it, telling himself it was seagull meat. But when he tasted real seagull, he realized that the meat he ate was something else, his wife.

During the shipwreck, the guy and a few others were stranded on an island. Because there wasn't much to eat, they had to make due with "seagull sandwiches." The guy didn't know that a "seagull sandwich" was the remnants of his dead wife.
When he eats a "Seagull sandwich" at a restaurant, he realizes that the first one he had, when he was stranded, was not a "seagull sandwich" at all, so he kills himself.

because the seagull had eaten his wife... so when he saw that the seagull is also killed he thought that they some how had saved his wife... so he wanted to kill himself because he hated his wife and was happy that she was finally dead.
