At the time of Jesus there were a number of religions much like Christianity. The oldest of them, by thousands of years, was the worship of Isis and Osiris, originating in Egypt. Osiris was a man who was also God. He was killed and resurrected and was celebrated with a feast of bread and wine. By eating this sacred meal the worshippers got to share in the eternal life of the resurrected Osiris. This religion lasted until the Roman emperor had all its priests killed and its temples destroyed, about 300 A.D. The star Sirius is named for Osiris, the redeemer and mediator. Isis was the female figure, who morphed into the Virgin Mary. So the original version of the religion was killed off but in its transformed form it lives on in Christianity which absorbed its ideas. The hymn "O for a thousand tongues to sing the great redeemer's praise" was a hymn to Isis - the Christians just snagged it along with a lot of other stuff.

The predominate religion was Judaism in that area: other than that, pagan religions were very common as well.

J*sus was Jewish and Chr*stianity did not exist until several years after his death: Islam came even later. Paganism was the other dominating religion, as well as Buddhism, and Hinduism in India.

Since Prophet Adam(pbuh) there is only one religion.
The Religion which teaches us to worship only and only one God Almighty without sharing of power and responsibilities.

The God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace and blessings of The God Almighty on all of them).

The other so called religions are actually off shoots and deviated versions of true religion and teachings of Holy Prophets.

Every Holy Prophet taught us to worship only one God Almighty.
May God Almighty give us wisdom to find true teachings and keep us away from deviations and false and lies, (Ameen)
