If you're still in school try out for the track team. Understand you will be dedicating lots of time to training so if you do any other sports that you are serious about really think about if you can join the track team or not. If after you join the school team and decide you like it and will continue join a club team for the summer and keep training. Practices will consist of lots of technical/technique, weights and group runs. It's best to do the weights with a group or at least someone that knows what they are doing to get the proper exercises and technique because you don't want to hut yourself doing heavy weights by yourself especially if you've never done them before(would you go using a chainsaw and cut down a tree by yourself if you've never used one or done it before?)
Have fun and remember you won't be an expert right away, learn thetechnique, get proper coaching, get the equipment(good quality running shoes, spikes for competition, running shorts, singlets)it will take progress and lots of work.

Believe it or not a week ago a reporter asked Tyson Gay what he did to help his 100M time improve? He said the 400, I've said this before if you want to get faster at any sprint or even hurdle event you need to run the 400. If you have some speed, practicing running the 400 will improve your speed and give you more strength to finish the 100M this is a pr oven fact and it works! I have all of my sprinters run the 400. If you are not naturally fast like only a few sprinters are, you need to practice these runs. Some don't want to do it cause it hurts. If you want to win you gotta put your work in. Coach Richee C

Get down to ur local running club & join in with the sprint group. u'll get far better results doing this than sprinting alone. having a group will give u competition, motivation, friends, facilities & u wont have to worry about planning sessions. Your group may not carry out weight training though so u may have to do this independently. Remember, low number of reps but a heavy weight= a fast sprinter, but be careful u don't hurt yourself. If you're gonna be serious u'll also need some sprint spikes & starting blocks (look in a running shop). Always warm-up, stretch, be safe, have fun etc. good luck!

do whatever you can do to strengthen your calf muscles-they are what allow you to run on your toes, which makes you faster. I lift weights and run suicides every day to build up leg strength
