I owned an American Bulldog several years ago. I received him when he was around 12-14 weeks old, so he was a little bigger. It is a little hard to really see if he is a pure bred by the photo you have up for view. His face is a bit different from what our American Bulldog looked like, but it could just be the angle of the photo. There are a ton of websites to view online so you can compare photos.
9 weeks is still pretty tiny. I would definitely research on line and compare photos. Buying from classified ads can be risky because American Bulldogs can have an aggressive streak to them. I would definitely start your dog VERY early in some sort of obedience class and socialize him as much as possible!!! They have a very high prey drive and will try to chase anything that moves when they get a little older. They are very easy to train, but you really need to focus on their aggressiveness. They are fiercely loyal and will protect you from anything and anyone. I felt extremely safe with my American Bulldog. He was one the best dogs ever!

below is a link to pics and breed standards for the american bulldog. you can check that out and see what you think. and as i've always said research the breeder, this way you know you are getting what you pay for. good luck.
good looking pup! looks bulldogish to me.
10lbs at 9 weeks is too big for a jrt or small type of terrier. they are usually only around 18-20lbs full grown. he'll start to grow soon and quick.

he looks fine to me. i think a couple of your answerers are a little mixed up on what an american bulldog is. where does jack russell come in here? and an american bulldog is totally different from an english bulldog. an american bulldog is about the size of a boxer, or a little larger when full grown. and the face is somewhat like a boxer, but has a longer muzzle, and no big lips. it's almost like a pit bull face and head.

He's a beautiful pup and looks good to me. Bull dog breeds often grow slowly to start. I rescued a Pit pup at three weeks old and she fit in the palm of my hand. At two months old she was still quite tiny but now she is a year old and weighs about 60 lbs.
I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Did you see the parents? More breeders let you see the parents. If you didn't get papers though, it still might be a full breed, just not registed or winning blood lines.
