First you need to figure out why you have insomnia. Then you can treat it. If you just told your doctor you can't sleep and they gave you ativan (which it can be used for insomnia) and it is causing side effects which are problematic to you, you need to let your dr. know.

Ativan gives you a calming effect, which can be all one needs to fall asleep sometimes. Other times, you may need something with extra strength. Both Ativan and Valium are part of the benzodiazepine family that do basically the same thing to the central nervous system.

Again, you need to figure out why you have insomnia. Is it because of depression, stress, apnea, an event? There are many causes of insomnia and medication is only for a short term solution and should not be used for extended periods of time. There are plenty of sleep clinics that can help too.

Also, have you tried the 'standard' methods? A short warm bath, no tv in the bedroom, warm milk with honey? Also, if you go to bed and can't fall asleep, you should get up after about 15 or 20 minutes and do something non-stimulating (read a book, do a puzzle) and try again. Many times the act of trying to fall asleep and not being able to causes stress which results in not being able to fall asleep (you know, looking at the clock and knowing what time you have to get up is getting closer and closer - don't have a clock obnoxiously visible when you go to bed).

Good luck & good night!

I don't know if that you could get it without prescription, at any place you are, however this is some info on Valium: Diazepam (exchange title: Valium) Used for anxiousness, convulsions, insomnia, seizures, muscle spasms if you happen to take it for sleep then all it's different action will probably be part effects for you so together with the typical facet results: * stomach upset * blurred vision * headache * confusion * melancholy * impaired coordination * alternate in heart price * trembling * weak point * reminiscence loss * hangover result (grogginess) * dreaming or nightmares I won't go into mechanism or anything else (you obviously do not want that). Absolutely don't power or use equipment when taking this. Can lead to dependancy, however unlikely at the dose for minor insomnia (until you binge on the capsules) There are different things you can take similar to Kalms drugs (a common relief) with little or no aspect results although in case you alternate your mind.

Doubtful, as Valium is very addictive and not generally prescribed for insomnia. General use is for anxiety, but less and less doctors r handing it out as newer drugs do the same but with less addiction.
