The term spanking isn't used but it mentions using the "rod" of discipline. Some people think it could mean beating your children with a stick, but really the term rod refers to guiding in discipline the way a sheapherd would guide his sheep with his sheaperding rod.
Of course sometimes spanking may be needed, i know that when i was little i wouldn't listen sometimes and i was spanked and it helped me listen to discipline as i grew. I have a great relationship with my parents today and in no way did it ever stunt my "growth" in any way. But then of course they never beat on any of their children including me prefusely or eccessivley.
A balanced view of reasoning was always used and I may not have liked it back then but i can sure see i may have needed or deserved a spanking when i was a young ankle bitter.

Yes it is, like alot of the quotes that you will never see people use in here because if they did, it would make the bible sound different than what they want you to think. We now know as a society that spanking children is the least effective form of discipline (do not disagree if you do not know anything about child development because it is a fact that it is only fear based and nothing more). Does that mean the whole bible is untrue, no only that it might not be all true.

I don,t recall any spankings however the Bible does tell you to do it.....(.Spare the rod and spoil the child..) but the rod of correction will drive it far from the child.....So i do believe it is correct to spank your child when they need it...Not Abuse though....somewhere else in the Bible says The rod of correction will drive away the foolishness from the heart of a child.

Kind of.
Spare the rod, spoil the child!!!
I'm not sure where the verse is but it in their somewhere. It's not strictly spanking, using a rod instead. Some people take it to mean child abuse is o.k. but I don't think that was intent. Intent was likely, reasonable corporal punishment when needed.

I forgot the reference, but somewhere in Proverbs says: "Bring up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." If this includes spanking, then the answer is yes.

Spare the Rod and spoil the child. Is the only reference I know that could possibly relate to spanking.

(Proverbs 22:15) Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
(Proverbs 29:15) The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

Yes it is. I don't remember the chapter nor the verse but read the Book of Proberbs. Don't worry it's not a boring book and you will find a lot in Proverbs so I ask that you read it.

By all means it is. God says to use it as a tool of instruction, not for abuse. He also uses it Himself to correct His children.

Does it matter? There's genocide in the bible... I surely wouldn't use that as a benchmark of acceptability. Standards of ethical behavior change over time.
