Usually for prescription drugs it's cold turkey. But when I was going through that from high blood pressure meds, stomach meds, nerve pills and you name it, I had withdrawal as well. It was horrible. I don't take anything anymore, and I'm healthier now.

Try what some of the AA's members do and that's a megavitiman therapy...although even with vitamins be careful. But I guy I used to date had to take 500 mg of Niacin a day. You can get the one that does not cause flushing of the skin...which is much better. Then get other vitamins such as C, B6,B12, and the entire B group. Take 150 mg. a day (each). Then drink lots of water, 3 liters a day...and space it out; Also, eat a lot of leafy green veggies like the unusual...Italian greens (steamed and then fried in olive oil and fresh garlic)...broccoli, squash, and with these veggies it'll be easier to clean the blood and liver. Also, asparagus, bok choy, and ease up on the carbs as that holds back the action of the veggies and the niacin. I know it sounds half baked, but that worked for him while in AA and it worked for me coming off all those prescription meds. Some you'll just have to tuff out. But for pain take something simple like Advil or Extra Strength Excedrin. You'd be surprised how the normal painkillers work. And, you will be in discomfort; I'm not going to lie to you, but you can beat it, just like I did. Good Luck

Just quit. My healthy, body building 33 year-old friend just died from complications of Vicodin toxicity. He had been addicted for a couple of years. He was also asthmatic and he had an asthma attack in his sleep (as near as we can tell) and the Vicodin in his system further suppressed his breathing and he just never woke up.

Cold turkey. I did this myself. I merely didn't sleep for four days, that's all.
