When will I be forced to buy one of these new players because movies will not be coming out in the old dvd format

It's not happening during the next 10 years. VHS players are obsolete and still being made...
Studios and replicating facilities agree to continue manufacturing DVD's for as long as there is a demand for them, and HDTV, which will propel Blu-ray and HD-DVD sales, is going very slow into the consumers.
TV networks are already changing to HD, and they have been doing so for the last 20 years or so but the consumer has the final word.

I bet they'll all be HD soon! TV's all will be too! I don't think the BluRay discs are here for the long haul. You have to own a specific player for them- who wants to bother with that? Remember laser disc? No one else does either! LOL
